Turtle release

On nesting beaches, almost always near Puerto Escondido, you walk with hatchlings on their first stretch. Season, species and group size are set by the camp.

Often paired with bioluminescence

Three species nest on this coast. The tour does not stage nests: you go when hatchlings are ready and the camp opens the group.

The setting is sunset on the sand. Afterward, if the night is dark, many people continue to the Barra de Colotepec lagoon for bioluminescence. Photos on this page are from the release, not from a sailboat.

How the day runs

  1. 01

    Transfer to the camp

Departure from Huatulco toward that day’s beach.

  2. 02

    Short talk

Species, rules and why flashes are not used wildly.

  3. 03

    Release

The hatchlings walk; you open a path and do not over-handle them.

  4. 04

    Sunset

Time on the beach. Optional: continue to the lagoon.

  • Small group

Includes

  • Transfer according to the day’s plan
  • Support on the beach
  • Coordination with the camp

Not included

  • Bioluminescence (quoted if you want it)
  • Dates outside hatchling season

If there are no nests that week, there is no tour. Ask for space and date before locking it into a closed itinerary.
